The start of any successful dressmaking project is a properly prepared and sized pattern, get this right and the rest will fall into place. This 5 week course allows you to work with a pattern of your choice and takes you through the steps to size, prepare and refine the fit of your pattern properly. We also cover copying favourite garments, creating toiles, identifying fit issues and design features you may wish to add or remove from your pattern before embarking on your final version, ensuring you avoid frustrating results further down the line. A must for any aspiring dressmaker this class will help ensure a perfect fit every time.
During the class we will cover:
Taking body measurements
Identifying the correct pattern size
Checking sizing against pattern pieces
Ease, style and bodyshape and how they affect fit
Toiling and fitting
Common adjustments and fit issues
Copying garments and drafting pattern pieces
Construction of your final garment
Sessions run from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Our classes are limited to six participants so every one has access to the space and support they need.
You will need to bring:
The pattern you wish to adjust, toile fabric and your final fabric. (Those who have attended our pattern cutting classes are welcome to bring their self draft patterns to work with)
