Refreshments: Any young sewers staying for both morning and afternoon sessions should bring along a packed lunch.
Age range: Usually 7 years upwards, but all children are different so do get in contact if you have any questions,.One adult is welcome to stay to settle, support or learn with any young designers on any of our sessions.
Sessions:
Get Stitching - Thursday 16th April 10am-12pm
Aimed at leraning together, each child and adult pair will learn together to set up your sewing machine and stitch confidently while working through a simple useful project. Materials and machines provided.
Measure and Make - Thursday 16th April 1pm-3.30pm
Cotton shorts/pyjama bottoms - draft your own pattern using a few simple measurements and create a pair of shorts/pyjama bottoms
Material requirements – 1.5m-2.5m Cotton fabric (to decide how much fabric to bring measure 2.5 times the length from your waist to ankle for pyjamas, or knee for shorts), 2.5cm wide elastic, matching thread
Design and Draw - Friday 17th April 10.15am-12.15pm
What shapes do clothes need? How do I draw my designs? Young designers will work through a number of excersies that help them understand the design process before moving on to draft a simple t-shirt pattern. Materials and worksheets provided
Make a T-shirt - Friday 17th April 1.00pm - 3.30pm
Construct a simple t-shirt either from the pattern you drafted in the morning session or from a stock pattern provided
Material requirements – 1.5m jersey fabric, matching thread
Sessions are kept to a maximum of 4 people to ensure everyone can learn at their own pace.
